Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been
authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
For Enlisted personnel, the insignia is centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.
Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e),
"Beret" and
"Garrison Cap," respectively.

Since it was originally constituted on 21 January 1944 as the 461st Replacement Company in the Army of the United States, the 461st Personnel Company has always been assigned support roles, missions that the organization has embraced with its motto “Sworn To Support.” It would serve in three campaigns in the European Theater during World War II before being inactivated in France on 30 September 1945.
The Company was allotted to the Organized Reserves (which eventually became the Army Reserve) in February 1947 has been called into active military service on at least three occasions since then (in 1997 only some elements were issued the call). It was redesignated as the 461st Personnel Service Company in November 1967, and on 17 September 1995 it was reorganized and redesignated as the 461st Personnel Services Battalion. It was under this designation that the unit would earn a Meritorious Unit Commendation for service in Central and Southwest Asia between 2003 and 2004.
On 27 October 2006, the Battalion was reorganized and redesignated again as the 461st Personnel Company in the U.S. Army Reserve. As of Summer 2023, the unit is not listed on the Army Reserve Web site, but it may have been redesignated as the 461st Human Resources Company which is based in the 461st Personnel Company's location of Decatur, Georgia.
